Only the finest stem

and the best of hair

together make a brush

that will suit one fair:

on paper graced with crimson lines

it scatters pearls

like flowers fine.

Just because of long time use

the point is worn, exhausted;

no longer is it taken up

by a writing master.

3 A Horse Taken from its Stable

Snowy ears, a ruddy coat,

hooves of light aquamarine—

daily east and west it would run,

fleet as one chasing the wind.

Startled, it bolted,

making the master fall;

and now its neigh's no longer heard

in its glamorous stall.
